Frequently Asked Questions

Although we welcome referrals from our dental colleagues, one is not necessary to see our specialist orthodontist. If you have heard about our practice from a friend or family member, you are welcome to call us and make an appointment.

At Eastern Suburbs Orthodontics we provide speciality orthodontic care at a fee that is customised to each patient’s treatment needs. The cost is determined by the complexity of treatment, estimated duration and the technology used. Private health fund rebates may be available for orthodontic treatment; this is best checked with your provider. At your initial consultation, a comprehensive treatment plan and quote will be provided with payment plan options.

Every patient presents with their own biological gifts and will be given a treatment duration estimate at their initial consultation appointment. Using the latest in diagnostic and educational tools, including digital imaging, interactive media and other resources, Dr Ben Piller will go over all aspects of your treatment.

As a general guideline, fixed appliance therapy (braces) typically requires 18-24 months of treatment. A complex case requiring extensive tooth movement including extractions, missing or impacted teeth can take up to 24-30 months.

Clear aligner therapy (Invisalign) can range anywhere from 6-30 months and depends on the complexity of treatment, which will be discussed at your initial consultation.

While orthodontic treatment does require a commitment of time, many of our patients proclaim that their new smile was well worth the effort.

A specialist orthodontist holds dual degrees in dentistry and orthodontics and is required to practice as a dentist for a number of years before embarking on further orthodontic speciality training. This additional study focuses on the growth and development of the face, jaws, teeth, occlusion (bite), biomechanics and treatment planning cases.

Specialist orthodontists dedicate their practice exclusively to orthodontics, treating everything from simple tooth alignment to resolving complex developmental and functional issues that can impact the quality of life.
